Just found this site- bought a 61 GMC 1/2 ton last week.guess my knuckles are getting too soft and need a few new scars. hauled it home after it sitting for several years in new Mexico. gapped the points a little wider and put a little gas in the carb and cranked it. the old 305 V-6 started and idled- couldn't believe when I quit pouring gas in it kept running! siphoned out all the nasty soured gas I could and put some fresh gas in the tank and drove it around the block.got a leaking 2 barrel Holley and a leaking fuel pump to fix first and then plenty more things to tackle.but it's kinda fun to have something simple like points, carbs and mechanical fuel pumps to work with.anybody recommend a less expensive source for such things? I'm sure the local parts guys will be seeing more of me now. Raymond

sounds like a project underway awesome that it fired up and ran with very little effort !! just remember one thing leads to another. but that is all the fun

Welcome Raymond, always good when it fires up. Mine leaked oil, gas and coolant when I first got it as well. Nice to have the V6 engine, hopefully you will hang on to it.

Generally, the least expensive source for parts are the FLAPS, also good to get original parts whenever possible. There's been numerous complaints about the offshore replacement parts, but sometimes that's the only option.

As Leo, says, lots of parts for your model should be able to find at a local "Friendly Local Auto Parts Store". (FLAPS) Always, always check with them first. Many times they can even order it overnight without any shipping charges. E
