Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!

For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 467 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 467 | Any tips or tricks? Just got a rebuilt one last night with the right gasket. Choke cable bracket was included.
Looks good and I'm going to toss it on tonite. I assume I'll just use the old insulator. It is going on a 55 235.
Thanks

Thanks,

Like TC I'd like to know how it runs. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. I guess I could pull out the threaded iron plug below the carb and stick a barbed fitting in the intake manifold until I got it set up.
But I may just set it up by ear. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 467 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 467 | Well..preliminary report is very good...I stuck it on and the truck ran very smoothly. I could not get the idle down past 700 but it was a very cold and wet day (ad it got colder). I put it on the day the truck had to go into winter storage (1.5 hours away in the Valley area) and I have not had a chance to look at anything else on the engine (timing, valve adjustment, etc...) That will have to wait until the spring. I've got a Langdon dist that I'm considering installing as well.
I'm comparing this to a badly set up Rochester B that looks like it has a warped cover. The first Rochester B I took off had a very bad casting - some of the internal mating surfaces were marred and the accelerator pump fit very loosely inside the bowl (and the piston was new). It was rebuild so I guess they just used the old worn casting. Too bad.
I set out with the truck to the storage garage and hit a major temperature drop along my trip...got caught in a fairly large flurry and temperature dropped well below freezing as I got high in the hills. The truck ran great - lots of power, good response, no lag, fuel economy was much better as well. The only problem I had was when I stopped to top up the tank, the only way I could get it started again was by holding the pedal to the floor. It also shut off as I turned off the highway.
My buddy thinks it was a product of driving along in a wet, freezing temperature at 60mph with no heat duct going to the carb. When I got off on the side roads, moving along at 30mph and out of the wind, the truck idled great (at 700+) and started right up again easily so he may be right.
Overall? 2 conditional thumbs up so far. Thanks to Jon (carbking) for the advice. But then again, I did not have the best of 1b's to test against.
