I have a 41 chevy and looked at a 46 grill yesterday. The 46 grill had something different than mine, on the top of the bottom section there is a small chrome trim piece that goes over the top of the entire lower grill, is this standard for 46? Should my 41 also have this piece? I could not see how it was attached or I would have taken it off. Dave

My '46 grille has the bead across the top of the lower grille. Don't know what a '41 is supposed to look like.

Do you know if that bead is easily removed? I can take this one off of the 46 here if it will fit on the 41. In case you are wondering I'm visiting in Pa. and there is a 46 here on the farm, my 41 grill is at the chrome shop right now so I can't look at it. Dave

I've seen quite a few 41-46 trucks in my days, and only seen one style grill for those years, either chrome or painted.
The trim pieces at the top of the lower grill were stainless for the chrome grills and painted steel for the painted grills in my experience. There are twist "tee" connectors that hold that trim in place similar to the connectors for the hood side trim on the 41-46. They are easily removed if you have access to the back of the grill. If you try to remove the trim without untwisting the tee connectors you will likely damage the trim.
The after market grills for the 41-46 trucks have that trim spot welded to the upper portion of the lower grill. The after market grills can also be easily identified by the bottom of the lower grill, which is also spot welded on, as opposed to the original one piece stamped grill.
