I talked to Jim Carter about a month ago.
He informed me that he is in the process of reproducing the 14pc deluxe fender trims for the 1947-1955.1 panel trucks and of coarse a lot of guys put them on the suburbans.He said they may be available by the first of next the year.
Just wanted to share the information,I have no idea about price.This is not a for sale add.

Thanks,Tim

I wonder if the package will include the "deluxe" windshield & stainless trim
around the rear door windows...?

That should level the the OE Stainless prices. The purest will stay on the OE stuff though.

Wont be long and you wont be able to give away OE stuff, just pick up a catalog and order.

...in all honesty and fairness to Jim he has had a lot of stuff made that no one else has and for the most part has been decent stuff.
The one I'm proud he did was the gas tank for the AD panel trucks. Until he had them "re-popped" about 3 years ago we were just crap out of luck..... and the repop he had done is a dang good one and next to an old rusted out one I had the repop is an identical match.

That said, we'll just have to "wait and see" but I dont' think he wants something that won't sell and while there are quite a few out there its not gonna be the big seller as some of the other stuff!
Anyway, Thank Jim for doing this for us panel/burb lovers. Heck, no telling where we'll see those pieces..on pickups to!

Thank for the info Tim. I know you'll want a set smile

Once the word gets out that J.C. is re-poping these trims, you will see a flood of beat up, used ones, dumped all over the place.

When I talked to Jim Carter at 2013 Iola Old Car Show & Swap Meet July 11th - 14th
http://www.iolaoldcarshow.com/

He said that the 12 fender piece were going sell for $1000.
I have no I ideal the cost of the spears.

And He said that they are NOT going to sell individual LOWER fender pieces. Buy all 12 as a set or nothing.
But things could have changed.

Here are a few Deluxe pieces, Whoa! $2000 bucks

Last I heard was that J.C. was working with U.P. to have the strips made but, 2 years into the project it was decided that they would not be cost effective to make.

At this point, I will believe when I actually see it.

The easiest way to do it is to buy separate pieces to make a set.

Got a call from one of our local stovebolters today and he has "stumbled" on some old vehicles. One of them has ALL the trim pieces and from what I know they are in good condition.
I thanked him for calling...... and together we have got to convince someone to "let the rust bucket go". We'll see.

....no, I'm not telling who or where, until I get them in MY hands! smile

Any updates Alvin? Anxious to see if the deal works out for the trim. One of these days when I bring my lazy butt back up that way I would love to check it out.

jorb, how does one tell from the picture if its a 54 or 55 first series? I'm just curious.

Is it the hood emblems?

Yes, It is one of the differences between the 54 & 55 1st series trucks
3100 1953-1954 Hood side emblem
3100 1955 (1st Series) Hood side emblem I can't find a 55 1st 3800 reproduction emblem.
But while looking at picture I think it says 3800 1 ton, rather than 3100 1/2 ton.
The 3800 1 ton panel truck is longer between door strike pillar and the front of the rear fender than the 3100 1/2 ton truck.
That is what I think the picture shows.
Check drivers side door hinge pillar riveted on ID plate, on bottom of plate, there will be letters and numbers like:
H55K099999 or L55K099999
H = 3100
L = 3800
55 = year
K = Kansas build plant
0999990 = units number
The plate will ID the truck for sure. If its still there.
With all the roof and fender lights on it could have been a paddy wagon.
A long 1 ton can hold a lot of crooks. nono

I realized it is a one ton and with the lights on it I figure it may have been a lead vehicle, or rear vehicle, for someone moving mobile homes or something. It will take some time to get all the "details" but I'm a patient man smile
It will depend a lot on a bolter friend to "get me in there". Seems the folks don't like, or trust stranger's. We'll see and I'll let you know....and I was sent more pictures and the other side/rear/front shots all say the same thing.
Buy me!!!!

Very nice Alvin! Def looks like one to put back on the road. However, there is one on ebay right now from NY the seller has decided to sell for any bid over 3500 after he realized no one wanted it for anything but the trim.

I suspect with a lot of the interest he has gotten on it, he'll ask for the sky and see what insanely high offers come in. Wasn't Jim Carters considering repop'n the fender trim?

the rumor mill, and what I read here on the bolt, says he is planning to and has said a price "maybe" around 1000. It'll probably take a year to do?

NOTE: after reading the above, I decided to just call Jim myself since I've known him since about '94. Right now he is on vacation but the gentleman I talked to, I'll withhold his name, did tell me Jim is most definitely going to repop the trim but he personally did not know the dateline.
I ask him to find out when Jim comes back as to a estimate on delivery and cost. Since the gentleman knows Peggy and John, who doesn't?, to let them know and she would post a note here.

EDIT AGAIN: the gentleman also told me they are ready to roll out the repop grille's for the 41-46. I thought they already did but maybe not, OR I misunderstood him.

So, he IS going to do it, and hopefully we will know soon the "rest of the story".
This is my story and I'm sticking to it!

Like i said,they suppose to be available sometime the first of the year.The front fender spears are slowing the reproduction down.He sent only one to make the mold or die of. A local guy here told Jim,that the left and right front fender spears are different and only fit one side. I didn't know this,is this true ?
He told me a price he's going to ask,but I'll let him post it on his web site when available.He expects the west coast to purchase quite a few.

Somethings take time,I would rather wait for a part that fits,than spend money on a part that doesn't fit.I know he had to ship original fender sheet metal to the reproducer for fitment issues.
The front fender spears was the latest hold up.
You could always call Jim carters to find out where they're at.

Posted by Jim today.

"We here at Jim Carters would like to give our apologies for not having the trim for the panel truck in stock at this time. These trim pieces have been in production for several months, and yes we have ok'd them to produce, this is when we advertised them for being ready to sell as coming soon, with expected dates thought to be in stock by now. This is why we apologize. We do not have them yet, we have had a couple small flaws the supplier had to fix. To meet the quality of this set we expect. This trim has not been available for over 60 years, and it will be a great added set for the restoration of your 1947-55 Panel. Thank you for your patience".
