I have a 283 w/3spd OD to put in the truck.
I have heard that it is possible to add the OD unit to the 4speed tranny.

There is an aftermarket O-drive that can be put on. It is very expensive.

If you have a Saginaw 3 speed with OD and the trans in your truck is a Saginaw you should be able to swap IIRC. (some OD units are for the little Muncie SM318 three speeds)
FWIW there is something called a Ranger Torque Splitter OD that goes in front of a manual trans you can get for about $1,400 new. Gives you another shifter, and you can split gears with it.

However there are some modifications that need to be made to it, unless you are familiar with transmission assembly you would be better off going with a t5 5 speed if you want overdrive.
