Im getting ready to install the brakes on my 39 half ton. It has mustang 2 in the front and drum in the rear. Im going to mount it under the cab with speedways universal mount. Im looking for what year make model car i can get a master cyl and booster for this thing rather than order the set from speedway. Id like to buy them locally.

A universal GM unit from the 60s. Just make sure the booster will fit properly depending on where you are mounting it,
ie; firewall or under the floor board.

Where are you mounting it? How much room do you have?

Geo Metro are apparently good because they are very small and fit almost anywhere.

That's not what I meant. A "Drop in" replacement depends on exactly where on the frame you'll be mounting it, since you need to consider clearance for the transmission, crossmemebers, pedal linkage, etc. More information on your setup might help you get a better answer.

I have a 37 with an original Stang II front end. When I took the parts off the mustang I also got the brake booster and m/c.....used them as cores at my local parts store! A friend made me a home made bracket to mount it under the floor.
....Speedway should be able to tell you if the "universal" bracket allows the Stang II m/c and booster to bolt right up to it?

I got ya. Its not mounted any where on the frame yet, as id like to have the master/booster to see where everything is going to fit. 350/700r4 set up, I haven't fabbed the crossmember yet as, once again, i'd like to have all the pieces to this puzzle before i make anything permanent. The metro ones def. look small and seem like they would work well. Do you know how/if they would work with a full sized master?

The 7" used in most kits are Corvette type boosters and probably any early GM dual master cylinder. 7" are available: Ebay, Speedway, Jeggs, Summit. Amazon has a 7" dual diaphragm universal booster for $80.(chrome $90). Also you can rig a remote filler pretty easy/cheap.

It's a poor idea to mix a booster with a different master. I know a lot of guys that are using the geo metro booster and master with all kinds of different brake setups and they work very well. Just get the whole setup and you'll be laughing.

This seems like a lot of messing around just to spend some money locally, especially when the bracket you bought will probably work best with the Speedway parts.

Having everything figured out before you start putting it together rarely happens on a hot rod where everything is custom. You need to start putting in parts to see how much room you have and how everything fits. Without doing that it's just a wild guess. Some things on my truck changed drastically because I thought I knew how they would work and then when I went to do it, it wouldn't work the way I thought.
