I have my seats out of my 1950 3600. The springs and frame are in great shape. I want to recover them and would attempt it myself, however, there seem to be only a few basic colors. I'm considering just bringing them to an upholstery shop and going with something that will have a bit more support and possibly even two tone to match the interior/exterior color.

So, my questions are...

1) I use an upholstery shop, what is a fair price to pay??
2) Are there any vendors that offer a color selection for a seat cover kit I can do myself?

Another question please. What is the most economical heat and sound deadener to use? There are several on line and wanted to know how much to do the inside of the cab. What are you folks doing? Just the floors or are you doing the roof and back area behind the seat too?

For the cheapest sound deadener go to lowes or home depot and get a roll of the foil backed insulation. Its about a 1/4" thick with foil on both sides. You can cut it to fit and glue it in place. Not as fancy as dynamat but much, much cheaper.

That foil backed insulation was called Reflectix at our local HD Dave. Let me know if your interested I'd split a roll with you for my new OT project.

I don't know if you guys will really need to split a roll. It's pretty cheap, and I used an entire 50' roll putting 2 layers everywhere in the cab of my 46.

available too at most swap meets, around $25 or so a roll. ( works good for hot water heater insulation)

The stuff I get is meant for exactly that, hot water heater installation, but is a very cost-effective solution for vintage vehicles.

I am about at the same stage. I have investigated sound deadener until I am blue in the face. I am going to go with Dynamat no name. Basically, Dynamat without the logo. Very inexpensive on Ebay.

I plan on doing rear cab (lower) panel, floor behind seat/under tank, firewall, roof, inside doors. I also undercoated the cab with 3M Body Shutz (acts as sound deadener as well). The main part of floor will be painted and covered by rubber floor mat (to retain original appearance.

Of course, I have to paint the interior before applying the sound deadener...almost to that point.

I followed a similar path when it came to do mine,I bought generic sound deadener self adhesive pads from my local paint shop,I then covered that with the foil backed heat insulation everywhere,firewall,roof and behind the seat.
I used 3M carpet contact adhesive for the foil and so far it's holding up well,including the roof,despite some unusually high and prolonged(80+) summer temps here this year.
I'm pleased with the results,I can hold a normal conversation at 60+mph and without being cooked by heat transferal....

Best of all(and being a full card carrying thrifty Scot)it didn't cost a whole lot either!

I always use clear silicone. It works great and bonds very well. You just need lots of ventilation and to let the cab air out, but it works great and is inexpensive.

Thought I would post a picture of my recoverd seat. Came out great! I have white interior and windsor blue on the exterior so wanted something that would match both. I also wanted thicker material then the thin stuff that's sold with the kits out there along with a bit more 'padding'...
