Have you tried to gently remove it? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 | I did but I didn't want to break it. At least not till I get my new one. lol. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 | I believe it was pressed in. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 | Cool. I'll soak it a bit and try to gently work it loose.
Should I put any type of sealant on the new one when I press it in? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Now don't go jumpin' the gun Eric, unless I'm mistaken that should be screwed in. I believe it's a 1/8" NPT. And yes, it would be a good idea to use a little dab of sealer like Permatex or the like on it.

Here's a pic of the one they list for '47-'91 under both Car Parts and Truck Parts - http://www.classicparts.com/images/93-245.jpg | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | I guess I am wondering why one would want to replace this part? They don't go bad.

So for $3 I figured I'd have a back-up in case this one breaks when I attempt to remove and clean it. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | From the horses mouth: 37-51 ALL 52-54 3/4, 1 TON, UTIL......VENTILATOR, rear axle (thread type)....3684539 .18c 52 PASS., 1/2 TON 53-54 ALL (except PASS., 1/2 TON)......VENTILATOR, rear axle (drive type)....3700490 .18c
So I guess your '51, 3104 should be a thread type, if it's stock that is. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I'll let you guys know what happens. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 388 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 388 | I guess I am wondering why one would want to replace this part? Came out easy and the metal cleaned up real nice with some kerosene. The top felt loose but the shaft was completely clogged. For what it's worth, the plastic replacement doesn't come close to fitting. I suppose in a pinch you could drill out the original hole and press it in. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2805/10169122335_8a036a8a85_c.jpg | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | The top is supposed to fit loose, that's normal.

I'm hoping this is why my dif seals are always wet when I get off the hwy. I'm gonna clean it all up this week and see if it still weeps. Worst case I've got a new cover gasket and plenty of GL. I'll have to get to the axle ends later on. | | |
