The bench seat upholstery in my 49 half ton was done when I got it. It's period correct and looks nice enough but I'd like a bit more period correct style and comfort. Not looking for street rod look...nothing wrong with that but not the way I wanna go. Been looking at Hemmings some to see others' trucks and what they did....got some good ideas.

Like to hear from guys and gals here about what you may have done.. I personally would prefer at least some cloth with maybe a small amt of n'hyde in areas that get dirty.

Look for a good upholstery shop. We have a local shop (mother and daughter operation) that does great work for a reasonable price. My stock seat out of my 1950 3600 is being done now. I just wanted a bit more comfort and a color change. They use quality materials (I've seen the kits that typical vendors sell and the material is thin and limited on colors, etc.)

My cost is $350 for everything. They used thicker better padding and thicker material. They are also adding a bit of roll and tuck for me and two tone to match the original color of my new paint along with the inside color. I'll post some pics when I pick them up next week.

It looks like you have a good starting point (as I did) so keep us posted on 'Walter's' progress.

We have some shops here in this small town but they will be pricier than ones a bit further away. One guy yesterday quoted me $500 for just the seat and $200 for the headliner. I'll be shopping somewhere else

Jim Carter sells the deluxe seat cover for 54 and 55 first. He has the green version and the blue version.

What aspects of period correct style and comfort are you looking for?

Style is easy - single color leatherette.
Comfort - better/modern padding.

I think Mark means he wants a seat that's 'more stylish' but still 'period correct' .... like an upscale '49 car might have had

Pretty much right, Bill. I'm not liking the vinyl/n'hyde seating surface so much. Want a bit more cloth a more padding ... Also some coordinated colors to go with body color.... Still from the 40's in style...not hot rod.

He's not bad for the seat.

I went with a later model Ford seat and took the head rests off. Ended up like this;

A friend of mine helped with the headliner. Used the same material as the seat. Of course, the '58 is a pretty easy one to do.
