Soon to have a 3600(on it's way). Definately wanted the 3/4 ton as this will be used first & then maybe a cruise night now & then. Had old Chevs in the 60's & 70s. Did some resto stuff & also worked in garages doing both mechanical & bodywork.

This one is already done, so I will be personalizing/upgrading/sensible things for daily driving. Would like to make contact with other 3600 owners anywhere. I see many on the forum, but I guess I can't PM ( I am disabled from private messages) until perhaps I'm a member for a while?...

...that's okay. It would, however be helpful if someone could tell me more about the under body spare carrier from Carter's. I think it is the one used by DADS50 in this thread:

Pretty excited about all this....

Until you've posted 4 times you can't use PMs. Spammers would register and then flood our members with spam PMs, so we had to start moderating newcomers. It's a PITA, but it keeps your inbox clean.

Hi Hilltown, welcome. Best is to ask those types of questions in the forums that deal with that. Try the body shop. I think the older A-D trucks had a different style carrier.

Thanks, Leo. I'll do just that. I'm not sure, though what you mean by A-D trucks. Mine is a 1949 vin:6GRG.... A Google search tells me: a 3600 Made in July 1949 in Oakland, CA - did I get that right?

A-D or AD stands for Advance Design or Advanced Design, depending upon who you ask. Back in the day GM had names for their model series; Master Series, Art Deco Series, Advance Design Series, Task Force Series, etc.

Welcome Hilltown.. Always nice to see another 3600 truck owner! Be nice to post some pictures when you get it.

Enjoy!

(PS, with your two posts, you are half way to being able to post PMs...)

Thanks, David.

I know we'll be talking. Took a look at your pics on Picasa & I'm intriqued with several things you have done....I'm going over to another spot on the forums and start asking some questions.

..it's what I've been considering. I won't have the truck for a few days yet & unfortunately don't have a pic of the frame from the axle to the bumper. The choice appears to be between the Carter and an original style...but, if I read the posts on this right, the original style spare carrier tucks the spare further up into the frame, but the original won't work on my 49 3600?
