I'm looking for a wiring harness for my 41 truck. I found that the old wiring is in need of replacement. I need to find an outfit that sells new harnesses for a REASONABLE price. Need one that is marked well for installation.

I resently completely rewired a 1954 corvett the harness was purchased from an online parts house. The harness was made by Lectric Limited (708)563-0400 Justice Il. It had cloth covering and was easy to install. It also came with a 3'x 2.5' laminated schematic. $600.00 was kinda pricey but everything on a vet is.

I paid over $400 almost two years ago for a restoration harness from YNZ\'s . Excellent marking, instructions and customer support. There are cheaper harnesses but I've never bought one so I don't know the level of support that comes with them. It was a bit of sticker shock to me too but I'm happy with my purchase and will buy from them again if the need arises.

BUT, if one had the gumption, they could acquire a wiring harness, lay it out on a board and map it, then it would be fairly easy to build them... anyone want to go into business? I've seen this type of board at the USMC Rebuild Depot.. it would be fairly easy to make one; each circuit is mapped to the board, with the wire size and length, connectors ect marked on the board. I had the dash out of the truck and attached all of the wires to the various items on the back of the dash. Head light switch, ignition switch, amp gauge, etc. I coiled up the rest of the wire and suspended it to the dash, then installed the dash. From there most of the wires go out through a large, about 1’ hole in the upper driver’s side of the firewall. Once you get past the dash wiring its pretty straight forward | | |

I've been rewiring my '46 as I go, and there really isn't anything to it.
As long as you know how to use pliers to crimp on ends, use heat shrink tubing and solder, you're golden. All you need is time.
Total cost of mine so far: $35.00. And that's mostly ring terminals and heatshrink. | | |

The wires are mostly all blue THHN with permanent wire numbers on both ends. Not stock, just a little better. There are so few of them it should never be a problum to trace | | |

I am in the process of installing Jim Carter's $180.00 harness. The price of copper has driven the cost of this harness up by $40.00 this year.
The harness is wrapped in a black weave that makes it look "Ol' Timey" and sorta origianl. It is much better than the 10 feet of electrical tape wrapped original harness I removed.
So far, it has been pretty easy to install and comes with turn signal wires built in to the main harness.
I know $180.00 is not cheap, but I know if I try to make my own, nothing will work...ever.
Gwen...Just have at it! It is easy...have a shop manual with the diagram handy and it won't take you long at all. | | |
