| | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 20 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 20 | I have a 54 GMC I am restoring and in checking the engine I find the block stamped with the number # 6107328 which is a 1954 248 GMC engine, however on the area by the distributor where the engine number usually is all that is stamped on it is 248, is that a factory rebuild or what? Thanks for any in information.

That code indicates a 1953/54 248 GMC block. The "engine ID or serial number" is pressed into the block after casting. It shows the engine size plus a serial number if the engine was installed in the truck at the factory; or, that pressed-in code is just the engine size if it was a factory replacement engine/block (as described by others in posts above). | | |
