I noticed yesterday that the transmission end of my speedometer cable on my '39 is just hanging around. It appears to mount to a hole in the left side of the transmission but all I have is a hole, basically, that doesn't seem quite big enough and is also not threaded. What am I missing, exactly? Hope this isn't bad news...

Thanks.

I don't know if this helps. I had a similar problem on my 46. There is supposed to be a double male-threaded coupler that screws into the transmission and onto which the spedo coupler screws.

Is the hole an open hole into the transmission? There should be a speedometer gear that screws into the case and it has threads that the speedometer cable housing threaded nut screws onto then.

It would help if you could link to some pictures.
