I'm a software engineer by trade, brew beer, smoke cigars and have always enjoyed working with my hands. As a kid I used to work in my uncles body shop, prepping, priming, cleaning, detailing, etc...
So last week I finally managed to get a 'classic' truck. Picked up a 1966 C10 stepside with a mid 70's 250 (377127 F0413CCF) likely out of a 75-77 Nova. She runs, not great but she runs.
The cool thing is that she appears to be the very last one rolled off the Fremont line in '66 with a serial number Z159947
She needs some work for sure and I will likely be here searching and asking questions as I undertake the slow restoration while trying to keep her somewhat drivable.
First task (besides stabilizing the body/rust situation) is going to be to replace the complete suspension, shocks, coils, tie rods/steering, brake upgrade to disk, adding sway bars, etc... Everything underneath looks 100% original and she floats like crazy when driving. Also considering the power steering upgrade as well.
As far as the engine goes, I'm sort of on the fence. I like the idea of slowly rebuilding the 250 with all streeet performance parts and some modernization but I would need a new head as I have the integrated head. An engine swap out also appeals to me as well because I _could_ also change the tranny to a modern automagick so the wife can drive her, but that looks a lot more involved and $$$ than I really want to get into, we don't have any drive line shops up here that could do the shaft work so I would have to probably flat bed her down to the valley for that...but it is still an option.

Nothing wrong with leaving a six banger under the hood. It kind of surprises people, they expect to see a V8. As you mention, you can hop them up a bit. Good luck with it.
