My name is Dave T and I live in NE KNox county just outside of Knoxville TN. I've had both military & civilian training on automotive type mechanics but somehow ended up in the electronics/communications trade. So I wrench for hobbie & pleasure.

This 1949 3100 is the proverbial barn find.
I found out about it while I was restoreing another car. Ironically it's been in my wifes extended family since it was driven off the show room floor at New Tazwell TN but I never knew about it. Her uncle Glee bought it new from what ended up being his grandsons wifes great uncle. It was parked in 69 in a basement garage then moved to a barn in 85 and there it's sat until I bought it from Glee's great grand daughter in the fall of 2012.
Another neat twist to the story is that my Mrs can remember rideing in it as a kid when her family would go up to Glee's farm in Tater Valley TN to pick from his garden. And yes they'd pick "taters" too grin

When I got it it didn't run, had no brakes, no bed and critters took up residence in the interior ruining it.
After getting the head rebuilt, rebuilding the carb and other basic mantenace shes running again and hopefully will be back running the roads of E TN soon. It sat approx 44 yrs awaiting someone to come along and get it running again grin

Currently the plan is to get it back on the road in it's present form, utilizing as many original parts as possible and upgradeing those that need replacement. I am lucky that most of the truck is still in OEM condition which is a primary reason to stay as close to stock as possible.
The chargeing system works after I excited the generator so it'll stay 6v for now. I am now starting on the brakes and 1st glance indicates a total rebuild. I am hopeful to reuse the hardlines and whatever else I find servicable.
All the glass is in pretty bad shape. What isn't cracked is stained/yellowed by something that the strongest cleaner can't remove, so total glass replacement is on the to-do list.
Theres a few holes on the passenger side floorboard and some dents here and there but otherwise the body is in pretty good shape.
The wood bed is rotted out and the sheet metal is pretty banged up. I look at it and see beautiful stained pine w/stainless steel trim in it's future. Picking it up
short vid of it running.
Walk around 3100 idleing

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
