on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 | Hi; Well I dropped the new 235 onto the frame of my 1950 3800, installed the new Langdon's distrib and coil, checked the valves, filler her with oil, hooked up the radiator and I'm just about ready to give her a start but.... I'm not much of an electrician. With just the motor and trans on the frame, no cab or anything else, whats the best way to wire the 235 up to give her a start? I'd like to get things running smoothly before I start putting the sheet metal on.
Cable from Battery to Starter. Battery grounded to frame along with the block grounded to Frame with the ground strap. power from Battery to coil? coil and distrib hooked up.
Do I need to wire up the alternator?
This is probably old-hat for some of the vets out there, Anyone have a quick tutorial?

You do need to put a resister in between the bat & coil. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. AND basic spring loaded ignition switch wiring to operate solenoid (batt, ign, run) or short out with a screwdriver. or maybe you have a foot stomp with a non spring loaded sw.

Since you got the distributor (HEI?) and coil from Langdon, see what he advises regarding a ballast resistor.

I'll give Langdon a call - I got both the distrib and the round coil from him. Can't wait to give this baby a try, just don't want to come this far and screw it up by wiring something backwards. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 | Well - turned the 235 over for the first time today and after turning the distrib a few degrees she started right up and runs smoothly. I did adjust the valves before starting it per the tech tips, and I hear very little noise so I'm feeling kind of proud (and thankful for the tech tip). Only trouble I see is a little gas leaking from the carburetor just above the base. But for today, I'm going to enjoy the fact that it runs well.
Thanks for all of the forum advice folks, another successful rebuild. | | |
