I have a 66 C20 with four speed. The previous owner didn't think it needed the reverse light switch.....any idea what it is supposed to look like and where/how it mounts? All the wiring is there, and to the lights, just no switch and connector. Thanks, Josh

If you have the granny box (SM420) 4 speed you ain't go one. The only 420 with a reverse switch was in the 67 trucks.

In 67, where did they put the reverse switch? I also wonder if I could install one? When I got the truck, it had the cutouts in the back for the lights, and a wire from the harness to each empty hole, and this funny little tab at the base of the stick shifter just inside the cab with a green wire sticking up through it. So I figured it used to have one that the previous owner removed along with the tail lights. I have the lights in and the wiring in place up to the tranny....just need the switch

I had a 1966 c-20 custom camper that had a original granny 4-speed with reverse lights. I remember the green wire that cowinfog is talking about.My switch went bad, and i could not find a replacement.I know it kind of looked like an oversized glove box light switch.I sold the truck,when gathering all the parts that went with it, i did not find it.You may want to try to get a hold of lilred66 and see if he has one.He is very knowledgable about the 64-66 trucks,possibly may have what you want.

I must correct you on the factory reverse lights avialable on the '66 C10, C20, K10 & K20 with the factory equipped SM420 four-speed on the floor manual transmission. The reverse lights became available in 1966 on these models. Attached is a picture of what the assembly looks like.

I hope this information is helpful and clears up the availability issue of reverse lights as a factory/dealer option in 1966.

4-5-6 Chevy Trucks, Is this type of reverse light switch available by any vendors? It looks like this type of switch could be adapted to most trucks with SM420's. Thanks.

Thats exactly what it is on a 66 sm420
Backup lites were only an option beginning that year
If i,m not mistaken 67 sm420 top cover was the 1st one drilled for a reverse switch
Also there was a thread awhile back about this very thing,And someone posted a link to how to drill and tap an older 420 tower for a pushbutton switch

Steve, According to my SM420's date code it should be a 1967, but mine does not have a reverse switch installed in the cover. I will have to look for the thread on this subject, it would be nice to have reverse lights on my truck.

As I remember Your ride was a put together from a previous Auto trans truck so youre trans could be a 67 case with an earlier Shifttower on it
Damnit if I could only find that link,it wasnt that difficult to do..........
