Hi everyone. I'm new in all aspects to the Stovebolt world. Just bought a fairly rough but operational 61' Apache C-10 and just located and registered on this forum. Been cruising the internet since I brought the girl home and it looks like this is the place to be.
I want to install dual exhaust and dual carb intakes. Searching around, it appears to me that Tom Langdon would be the place to go for one stop shopping.I'm not a mechanic but am fairly mechanical. I know this topic has been thrown around a bunch. I just want to make the upgrade as painless and productive as possible. Are there other suppliers other than Langdon's that will assist me in getting the right combinations to help the 235 breathe better? Oh yeah, and sound and look cool.
Thanks,
Mike

Patricks Antique Cars
Patricks sells Fenton intakes and headers as well as dressup parts.

They're good people to deal with. Very knowledgeable and won't let you make a mistake buying something that won't work for your setup. (No, I don't have any financial interest - I'm a happy customer. I bought an Isky cam and lifters from them.)

There are other places you can get the headers, but I don't know anything about the quality of the parts or the service the vendors provide.

Fenton headers - Speedway Motors
Offy dual carb intake - might fit - Speedway Motors
Fenton headers - Classic Industries
Williams headers - Langdon's Stovebolt Engine Co
2 or 4bbl carb intake - Clifford Performance
Clifford headers - they claim a 18%-22% power increase

Better carbs and headers will help the 235 breathe better and produce more power. (People will argue about how much more power.) So will a mild cam. If you want to spend a lot of money (about $1600), you can bore the engine and get more power that way as well. Good mufflers that allow the system to breathe will help as well.

I did all of the above, but I've never put my truck on a dyno to see what it produces. (I'm going to have to check on that.)

Mothertrucker in AZ sells the Fenton headers at a good price.

The Fenton dual-intake works without modifications with the Fenton headers. You will have to heat the intake manifold. I use hot air with the Fenton intake (no matter what Langdon says) or hot-water with the Offenhauser intake (that intake, and the Clifford intake, if still available, have a side-to-side flow-through internal heat-chamber).

Patrick's is a good source for any parts, if he has them in stock (he will usually dicker on price).

Langdon's dual Carter-Weber carburetors are well-matched to a 235. Get his linkage kit, if you get those carbs.

One readily available (and relatively inexpensive) higher-lift cam would be a 261 cam (this was also used in 235 Corvette engines).

The stock mufflers are civilized-quiet and are a baffled straight-through design. I doubt if the back-pressure is different from other, louder mufflers. The dual exhaust is a must for higher performance with dual carbs (or, with a bigger, single carb).

Thanks for all the info guys. I have heard good things about the Carter Weber set up for the 235 from Langdons. I don't see an intake manifold in his catalog though. How about the Williams headers? I don't hear anybody mentioning them. All I hear is Fenton.

Tom has told me that they fit the Offenhauser intake, which you would need to buy from a different vendor.

The two-barrel Carter-Weber carbs mount up to Fenton, Offenhauser, Clifford, etc two-carb intakes using the same 2-barrel to 1 barrel adapters.

This is the dual carb linkage set that Langdon sells.

You might have to grind mounting ears to match up the Fenton headers with Offenhauser intake and the intake barrel touches one of the headers (I had to grind both the intake and the headers).

Fenton intake with Fenton headers match up nicely.

Use good/new intake-to-head alignment rings/sleeves.
