I just got all the rest of my wiring in order from the previous hack job, and when I checked my turn signals, they all worked except when I turned on the left turn signal, both front lights flashed dimly and while all the rest flashed brightly when they were supposed to. SOOOOO this is isolated to the front turn signals, both flashing dimly when I set the signal to flash for a left turn. It's a 66 C20. Thanks, Josh | | |

Make sure the sockets are grounding right. Does a '66 have the turn signal lights in the hood still? You might try running a temporary jumper wire from the light socket to the negative post of the battery to see if that clears the problem. If it does the problem is definately a bad ground.

The voltage is definitely being shared betweenthe two lights, because the right side is bright, while the left causes both to light up dimly. | | |

#95073 03/16/2006 10:59 AM | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 | I'll bet it's a bad ground for the left front light housing.If the hood wasn't grounding both directions would be feeding back.It's still good to run a ground wore to the hood though. I used an old battery cable for mine,it was just the right length and already had the lugs on it. I just pulled one mounting bolt from the top of the hinge and one from the bottom,wire-brushed the surfaces and the facing and threads of the bolts off really good,and bolted it up.
The same basic idea applies for any grounding problem.

What happens is the current meant for the left turn signal element also travels through the left parking light bulb which in turn goes across the parallel connection to the right parking light bulb and then to ground. If you happened to remove the right bulb, the left front wouldn't work at all. | | |
