tell me what this is all about 1962 carry allok got you so far put new battery in no start put jump pack on start went to diffrent store new bat agin starts dies put jump pack on starts runs for 10 seconds pull jump off runs 10 seconds die will do nothing with out jump pack on carge battery put in no start put pack on start run all day on pack not battery :mad: :confused:

if it runs off a "jump pack" [battery] it's a battery or cable problem
re-check all your connections, sounds like the cables are not tight on the terminals or you've gotten bad batteries or hooked it up backwards

I would start with pulling the alternator and having it tested. Most of the larger chain-type auto parts stores like Checker or Autozone will check your equipment for free.

Or as Red said, double check your cables and connections.

it dose not have a alt in it it has a 12v gen init but maybe they can test it

My bad, you're correct, Generator no Alternator. I knew that when I typed it, and did it anyways.

I still think you've probably got something out of whack with the cables or wiring(?) but I'd still have the rest of the charging system checked out.

I would think you could find a shop that can check it pretty easily. You might have to do some searching in the yellow-pages cause those pimple-faced kids in the parts-house won't know what the world you're talking about when you say generator.

Look under automotive electrical repair and I'd imagine you'll find someone in your area that works on generators.

We've got several here and they generally will also test equipment for free.

check your battery ,also you might check to make sure your fan belt is as tight as required, sometime they can be loose enough not to charge as needed, dont happen often but it can....

a volt meter will not always work when checking a battery, sometimes it will need a load put on it,, good luck ,, let us know what corrects it,, good luck,,Fred

Bill, you've got everyone's attention now, let's see if we understand the situation, and maybe you can answer some questions that can help folks solve the running problem

1 you have a 62 burb with a 12V system and generator
2 it won't start or run
3 when you attach a battery pack, it starts and runs fine
4 when you take the pack off it stops

1 is it a 6 or V8, and is the wiring original in decent condition? does it have an ammeter or idiot light?
2 did the truck work until suddenly this problem developed, or are you trying to get it working for the first time [or after sitting a long time] and does it crank at all without the jump pack?
3 how, exactly, are you connecting the jump pack? directly to the cable ends on the battery?
4 the only reason it would die when you remove the jump pack is you have taken the battery out of the circuit, and if it won't continue to run w/ no battery, then the generator isn't generating, or the regulator is bad, but a bad generator shouldn't prevent it from starting

I'm with Joker, Take your battery to Autozone or some were and have them do a load test. Bad battery.

Did you flash the regulator when you installed the new one?? Polarity may be wrong if not installed correctly.
