I have a friend who is putting window glass in a 54 AD 1'2 ton. He is struggling and has cracked the glass. I offered to help but he says there is a difference in his doors versus mine. 52 1/2 ton. I thought that all doors for AD were the same after 1950. Or am I wrong? Been there enough times my feelers won't be hurt. Is there a difference? Or is the glass and channels the same? Thanks for all the help.

Advance-Design doors:

Doors were the same after 1951.
Doors were the same before 1951.
1951 door were loners - turn-down outside handles but two windows.

I think that 52 and 54 doors would be the same.

Same two windows, same latches/catches, but different interior colors.

Steve, I had a "problem" with my 52 panel. Ends up that the glass folks cut the back edge to straight and that is not the case. There is a small but slight "lean" to it. Stand back and look at the back edge of the door.
My problem was the glass I used for a pattern was from a badly worn out window channel and the glass had been cut to "fit it". A nice bolter sent me a pattern of the original glass and the glass company cut me another free....wow, what service. The glass now works just fine even though the right one is a little tight.
Note, if the window goes up about half way before getting tight then the angle of the cut may be the culprit??

Just trying to help...and I highly recommend to anyone getting glass cut that you make sure you have an original glass or pattern. I think some vendors actually sell the pattern.

Thanks to tclederman and Achpmunk: I will look at the glass he has and I might still have a pattern some where..old cracked glass any way. I think from what the owner says that this might be a case of old channel still in there and new shoved into place. That will make the channel too narrow to slide the glass into. Hard to say until I get my hands and eyes on the problem. Never thought to look for the small taper in the glass so thanks again. I just figured he was not taking it all apart for some wiggle room so now I gotta see what is what.

Update: Glass is rough and sharp on the edge. Pattern was OK so I put one door together today. Glass found a hard point inside the other door that matched up perfectly with a chip on the glass. Instant crack when I put my thumb on the bottom runner to line it up. One more trip to the glass cutter and try again. Doors are the same with different trim...chrome, not paint. Something is weird about the wing windows cause they want to tip and set down when I tried set the friction on them. Something missing? On the shaft? Will look at the "Tech Tip" here seems there was some nice pictures there. Thanks for all the help.

Final update: Duct tape fixed the "hard point" issue. New window went right in no problem. Gotta keep my thumbs off when stuck. Wing windows are missing a washer between the window channel and the strap that is under it. Owner did not want to remove them so I left them be. That is where one of the washers that have the oval hole in them goes. That supports the wing against the tension applied to the spring and keeps them from tipping in the frame. Sorry I was so late on this last update to be truthful, it just slid off my brain. Getting old is not for the faint of heart.:)
