I am in the process of installing new tie rod ends, Pittman arm and Idler arm in my 1965 C-10. I can't find any specification on what these items are to be torqued. Does anyone know what the torque specs are for tie rods ends, Pittman arm and Idler arm?

I have that info at home. I did mine last fall, so I'm sure I can find it. More later.

I found my notes.
Pitman arm to Center Link = 45+
I wrote down steering arm, ball joint and shock torque specs, but I don't have the Idler arm info. Very sorry.
I think my new Tie Rods came with paperwork that gave the torque specs.

Well, I did at least have the Pitman arm spec. Sorry I couldn't help more.

OK, just trying to finish up a front-end on a 66 GMC.

I couldn't find anything in the GMC manual on tie-rod ends. I ended up with 40 ft.lbs, but that was a guess. The manual does not bother with torque settings for all fasteners, seems to be hit or miss. In the specfications they list out sized and dimensions as if you might just mill your own stuff. :-)

Regie, in those cases I usually just go from experience and the "feel". (And I know you have experience)!
Does the 66 have the hole for a carter-key? If so I know you'll do it right and put big one in there!!!

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Yep,
Chipmunk. All the suspension and steering was castle nuts and cotter pins, except the upper balljoints to A arm that went from original rivets to grade 8 bolts and nuts with lock washers or jetnuts. Well, shocks were plain bolts...as were Ubolts holding lower A arms to crossmember.

Bolts from spindles to steering arms were 1/2 inch grade 8 with a long shoulder. Went to Fastenal and got close replacements should have waited overnight for McMaster-Carr. Replacement Moog stuff was hecho in china and not as good as original stuff.
