So I took a small chip out of the paint putting on the fender. 1/4 inch by 3/4 inch.

What is the best way to touch this up?

Can I mix up some paint and lightly brush it in place with a artists brush?

I know it would not be 100% but it is metallic.

It's your call, it will show, the ? Is how much do you care? Metal flake normally would require reshooting the whole panel to get it right, but you run the risk of the tint being off unless you get the mix, humidity, gun settings and other variables all the same as when you shot it. Did you keep a record of what you mixed, air pressure used, gun settings and the like?

yes but for such a small slip I would have to hate repainting the whole cab

Cab huh? Bummer. Depending on where it is you could maybe try a blend. Try the brush or airbrush and see if you can live with it...

Always protect stuff when assembling. Tape, cardboard, clean new rags, old sheets.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks.
Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

I took a chip out on my truck. I wet sanded with 400-600 to take off edge and I dabbed that area with paint only with my finger a couple times and then wet sanded, it blended ok. If you look hard you could see....but was ok by me...depends on your standard

This is why we paint the edges, put it all together, and then spray the whole truck complete. Sorry to hear you chipped it. You can brush the area, then wetsand it, then when you powerpolish the whole truck it will blend.

..perhaps you have a paint store that can put your color formula into a spray can so you can spray it? Just a thought.
Last can I had fixed up was 20 bucks but it makes it nice to do some kinds of touch up.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Had a same problem with my 49 Pickup with metallic paint. First mask off only the chip with tape. Take a VERY small amount of paint using a toothpick or touch-up microbrush and dab the smallest amount of paint on the chip. Wait 3-4 hours and repeat until you build up the paint. This may take a few days. Then with the tape on wet sand with the very fine sand paper. You may have to keep putting tape on. Apply more paint if needed. Do this until you build up the paint. Then remove tape. Do a final wet sand with very fine paper. Finally buff with very fine polish/compound. This could take days. Take your time!
