hey i am thinking about doing a power booster to my drum brakes ,, i know i should do the kit but i am thinking my budget ,,, can i do a power booster now and maybe do the disc later on ???,, or should i just the booster and leave it alone

I put power brakes on my '59 3600 with all drums, stops great! No need for disc on mine. It being a 3/4 ton I guess it has bigger drums than a 1/2 ton though.

Adding the booster will require reworking the brake lines to fit the new location of the master cylinder. If you later want to convert to front disks, a proportioning valve will be required and you will have to rework the brake lines again. I think the duel circuit drum and dual circuit disk/drum master cylinders are physically the same.

thats good to here,, now all i need a part number ,, i been looking and hoping that they were the same

So if i put a power booster on my car with drum front and rear,, do i need a prop valve, , i was told that if i wanted to add disc in the furture i would have to changethe master cyl,, why not add it then? ?. If i go that way, , i say drum drum will be just fine? ?.

This is for what its worth.
I have drum drum on my 52panel with a dual master cylinder and a booster.

So far I've only put just over 300 miles on it. I do not have a proportioning valve on it now. It stops very well. Just yesterday a young and dumb cell phone talking idiot pulled smack dab out in front of me. I got on the brakes hard and was surprised at how well they worked in an emergency. I like them.

I did put a 10lb residual valve on the rear lines.

I'm sure you'll get differing opinions but this is my story. I'm sure others will have different opinions.
Yes, I'll put a proportioning valve on IF and WHEN I do go disc on the front.....but since the panel is no hot rod I may leave it just like it is.

Since you live in the HILLS of Kentuck watch out for the drums. They do heat up and fade faster than any disc.

i am getting ready to drop a few bucks on brake stuff , like booster, drums shoes and wheels cyl and and a radiator,, wheres a good cheap place so far auto city classic is the best deal ,, maybe rock auto,, anywhere else i can look??

drums, wheel cylinders and such can be obtained from a lot of local parts stores. If not in stock they can be overnighted with no shopping charges.
(can your drums be turned?)

Check SEVERAL places before you spend your money.

I got a radiator from Auto City Classic and have been very pleased with it.
