I have just ordered a new distributer for my truck, Never installed one before, Summit says its easy?

Any advice. 1977 chevy stepside 1978 corvette 350 engine.
Also putting in new intake manifold and carb.
with some good directions and a cold beer should be a good afternoon project. no not going to drive after the beer just going to hope it starts again. drive next weekend.

Easy, just bring #1 cylinder to tdc and drop dist. in. Sounds easy doesn't it. Heres where you run into a problem, the oil pump drive shaft is under the dist.. Look down the hole and you will see it, if you look at the bottom of the dist you will see the opposite. These two need to line up together. Two ways of doing this, turn the shaft with a screw driver to line up with bottom of dist., but you must consider that the dist will turn when installing because of the cut on the gear. Second and easier is #1 cyl tdc put dist in where you want the rotor pointing to number 1, you may get lucky and it will fall in place. If it doesn't, don't worry just have someone crank the engine over while you hold the dist whith a little downward pressure and you will feel it when the two shafts(oil pump drive and bottom of dist align with each other) come together the dist will fall down and the base will be against the manifold. Souns a little complicated but it's not, just wanted to let you know whats involved.

the new one will slide in the same direction the old one came out. Every thing will stay lined up, as long as you dont turn the engine over. Just take note where its pointed you remove it, and install the new one the same way, it doesnt matter what cyl its on. As tommy said the rotor will rotate alittle bit as you pull the distributor up, when you install the new one, start the rotor where the old one left off and it will rotate right into position, as you push it down.
