I have a 235 with single carb, Fenton dual exhaust and Mallory ignition. I want to install dual Carter-Weber carbs. The Mallory does not have a vacuum advance. Considering replacing the Mallory ignition with HEI ignition. My original distributor is long gone. Was told the HEI will respond better as a daily driver.
Looking for some input on the distributor ignition.

I recently put an hei distributor on my 250. I had an awful intermittent miss and was thinking that I made a mistake buying a $65.00 Chinese distributor off ebay. I finally found a loose wire on the distributor (my own fault). Now the motor runs better than it has since I got it. The points kept fouling on the old distributor is why I changed it. I am not sure if it would be an upgrade for your Mallory or not.I was replacing a wore out distributor.

Larry, i ran an old dual point Mallory for several years, should have swaped it out for HEI sooner!
Got one From Tom @ Stovebolt, used a set of NAPA Blue max wires for a later Ford 300 six.
It was at least the 2nd best upgrade I've done for driveablility, right up there w/ T5 swap.

See the TECH TIPS here on the 'Bolt for a good "How-To" on using an HEI on a 235 or 261. Remember to run a 10ga power lead from an always on switched power source.

I have bought HEIs on ebay and on the inside of the casting they say "Holden" which is GM in Australia. There may be some Chinese ones there, but I have never gotten one. All the "ebay" ones seem to have to much vacuum advance. I have had to replace the vacuum can with a 10 degree can from a V-8 "High Performance Kit" from the flaps. ALL the HP parts that fit the V-8 version work on the L6 version except the cap and shaft! Have fun, guys!

Best wishes,

Les

Talked with Tom Langdon yesterday. The carbs and HEI distributor are ordered.
