My new points didn't come with cam lube for the rubbing block on the points. So what would be a good grease to use?

and a tube will last you as long as you got left in the garage.

I use white lithium assembly lube. I used it the first time because I didn't want to drive into town and I have the assembly lube on the shelf. It has worked great since and like Denny said a little bit goes a long way.

Is that where the Shop Manual ('54) says to use petroleum jelly?

the small print.
Who doesn't have a jar of Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly, aka Rod
Wax, sitting idle in the back of the medicine cabinet. I think
I've probably got a half dozen old jars in the top of the tool
boxes and on shelves in the shop.
Ya taint gonna get off any cheaper than that.

That Wikipedia entry is not explicit about the rod where the wax accumulated - it was the oil pump's main rotating rod.

Atomarc is the one with the double-entendre mind? But, many of us bought into his notion.

And you wonder why I feel the need to write short stories in my

Some years back I watched a Ken Burns documentary where they
portrayed what life was like back in the early oil fields.
So that's where I got the term from and ever since then I've
refered to Petroleum jelly as Rod Wax. But just to satisfy all
the doubting minds, and in the interest of explicitness this should cover all the bases:
