My new points didn't come with cam lube for the rubbing block on the points. So what would be a good grease to use?

TIA.

Brian

CarQuest in Princeton Brian. This is a little more reasonable
and a tube will last you as long as you got left in the garage.

Distributor Cam Grease Part Number: 52-8600 Price: $5.87

I use white lithium assembly lube. I used it the first time because I didn't want to drive into town and I have the assembly lube on the shelf. It has worked great since and like Denny said a little bit goes a long way.

Nice catch Lonnie, you must spend all your spare time reading
the small print.
Who doesn't have a jar of Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly, aka Rod
Wax, sitting idle in the back of the medicine cabinet. I think
I've probably got a half dozen old jars in the top of the tool
boxes and on shelves in the shop.
Ya taint gonna get off any cheaper than that.

atomarc, welcome back. I hope you are well.

I truly had thought that Denny was referring to a fishing rod.

Thank you for clarifying that, as you often did on many topics in the past.

Tim & Tiny,

Thanks...seems like you become part of a family when you are infected with 'Bolt-itus' and you have to come home every once in a while to see what goes on.

In my lurking I see that Tim has graduated to a big bolt...that sounds fun...and Tiny still has 'Sweetie', a truly sweet ride.

Oh you youngsters, I gotta teach you everything:
"The raw material for petroleum jelly was discovered in 1859 in Titusville, Pennsylvania, United States, on some of the country's first oil rigs. Workers disliked the paraffin-like material forming on rigs because it caused them to malfunction, but they used it on cuts and burns because it hastened healing."

"Robert Chesebrough took the unrefined black "rod wax", as the drillers called it, back to his laboratory to refine it and explore potential uses. Chesebrough discovered that by distilling the lighter, thinner oil products from the rod wax, he could create a light-colored gel. Chesebrough patented the process of making petroleum jelly by U.S. Patent 127,568 in 1872."

That Wikipedia entry is not explicit about the rod where the wax accumulated - it was the oil pump's main rotating rod.

Atomarc is the one with the double-entendre mind? But, many of us bought into his notion.

And you wonder why I feel the need to write short stories in my
replies instead of one liners?
Some years back I watched a Ken Burns documentary where they
portrayed what life was like back in the early oil fields.
So that's where I got the term from and ever since then I've
refered to Petroleum jelly as Rod Wax. But just to satisfy all
the doubting minds, and in the interest of explicitness this should cover all the bases:

My apologies for having my mind in the proverbial gutter...it was to coincidental to resist. I think Mr. Graham is feeding us a line of bull-dungo on the 'vas-moline' story.

The man from Sandwich is way too devious for me, but he means well. smile
