For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 | Just up at the shop where my guy is working on the install of the new front clip. Seems someone in the past...for what EVER reason welded or bondo'd all the fenders to the body so they cannot be removed which makes the IFS install MUCH more difficult=more expensive. Also found that the steering box was/is only held on by one bolt and it was almost falling off...only one turn of the thread holding it on. I'm scared to death of what else might turn up but I'm guessing all you guys find nightmarish stuff when you dig into it. He said, and I agreed, he wants to go over the entire truck after the IFS is done to make sure it's right and safe.... Heck yes... ! No wonder I was wandering all over the road... | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Dogface, yes sirreeee, I know what you mean. This is what was waiting when I pulled the fender off my panel....note the ONE tab left that was holding the fender on!...and it got worse. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r19/LutherParris/52Panel/000_0027.jpg | | | | | Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2012 Posts: 543 | OMG...seems I have been 'out done'. My floor, inner cowls and toeboard are still swiss cheese and my guess is all the previous owner did for the past +20yrs was top off the oil. Never fear tho. There's always a light. ...for me that light is the waves, thumb ups and stares I get when I get out and drive it. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,298 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,298 |

This town where I live is all about classic American cars too, so plenty of eye candy here to look at...just not much of the two legged kind...lol. Somewhere in the past 60 years an owner decided bondo would solve all rust problems. Inner to Outer cowl, kick panels, toe boards etc, all covered in bondo.
Needless to say I had molds of what the sheet metal looked 30 years ago and pieces of rusted metal on my garage floor.
I finally got all of the rusted pieces cut out last weekend, pick up the sheet metal tomorrow, and start putting everything back together. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 22 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 22 | I made the mistake of buying a disc brake setup for the front and rear when I got mine only to find out that the front and rear end was swapped to 3/4 ton. When I first got the truck nobody in the family could tell me anything, now that I've started tearing it down looking for more issues family members are coming out of the woodwork with info. Decided I'm going to tear it down to the frame and fix/repair/replace after I know for sure what everything is. | | |
