Hello to All,
I have a '46/47 Suburban project and need a bell housing to fit the newer 235 engine I put in to replace the 216. I did not save my old bell housing to mate up between my 3spd tranny and a '58 235. Which one will work and where to look? Did not see one in swap area. All help is greatly appreciated.

Patrick,

1938-1947 is one part number. And, 48-53 is a different part number.

This may have to do with the engine bolts and/or the transmission bolts (or, maybe even another difference).

Wait to hear from someone who knows. There is no question that you cannot use a 1954 and newer clutch housing, because the rear motor mount changed in 1954.

What year 3-speed transmission do you have?

The one you need 46/47 and earlier, has a smaller tranny pattern plus bosses (3 threaded holes) to mount your master cyl and pedal bracket. Should not be difficult to find. Also these early ones bolt up to all 216, 235 and 261s.

As Tim said, you need a 1938-46 truck bellhousing.
This will bolt to the 235 and your 46/47 trans.

Holy Schmoly, A lot of very quick replies. My tranny is a stock 46/47 I believe.
So as you all say , now I need to find a housing from a 38-46.

Thanks tons!

A gmc bellhousing from 1939-1946 will also work.
