OK got the parking brake cable in and working. Now I need to do a brake job. Attached are pics front and back. I have read about a hold down clip and spring. I don't have any currently, or are they not needed for the 1950? I see a whole in the brake shoe but nothing in the backing plate to slip the clip in. Should I rebuild the wheel cylinders or purchase new ones? also if I can get someone to look at the pictures and let me know if it is complete as is that would be a big help. thanks for the help. I don't see anything missing there. If my cylinders were not pitted and they were rebuildable, that is the route I would take.

I don't remember for sure if huch brakes used the hold down spring or not, but I don't think they did. The hold down spring and clip are usually just below the center line of the brake shoes.

It looks like the fold down clips that hold the pivot for the hucks on the fronts are missing?

Truckernix is right on with the wheel cylinders.

Jeff

Steve, did you use new parking brake cables? If so, which vendor and how do they fit?

Classic Parts, they seem to fit and work, i made a couple of spacer plates to put in but ended up that i added 4 washers between the plates on each side at each bolt to take up the space (new bolts of course), doing a complete brake job also so the real test will be when i get it all back together. I am not sure i would recommend buying these as the ones a took off even though they are 63yrs old fit together better.

Smolony,
I have a 50 3100 and there were no holes in the backing plate for the shoe hold down keeper and spring assembly (like what comes on Bendix style brakes). I have a 49 that has a piece of sheet metal with a hole in it that comes off the backing plate to accept a spring retainer that has a hook on the end of it. (The 50 does not have this sheet metal with the hole in it). I don't know what you, or I are supposed to have on a 50 3100. I am just telling you what I have. I'm sure someone else here can let us know.

I know nothing about this, except that he Shop Manual shows differences between the 1948 and 1950 rear shoe mounting. 1948 has a guide pin and conical spring as a hold-down. The 1949 and later does not have those parts.

It could be that a truck registered early in 1949 had 1948 parts?
