The base wheel on 1953 1/2 ton was a 16x4.5.
But, the truck could have come from the factory with optional 15" wheels (RPO-273H 6-bolt 15x5.5 wheels). The tire was a 6.70x16. It looks like the same size tire was base equipment on 3600 trucks (8-bolt 15x5.5 wheels)
As Whitedog posted, the optional 15" wheels would not have come from the factory with 7.50 tires. I have run 7.50x15 Toyo radials on those RPO 15" 1/2 ton rims.

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

I went with 15" wheels and 215/75/R15 with a narrower ww. Got tires from Amazon @ $75 ea. I love the wide ones but not willing to pay $250+ per tire. Mine is a 49 half ton and my stock rims were 4" and would not clear disc brakes w/o some grinding..
New wheels and tires are not on yet so my photo collection is still with the stock setup. | | |
