I had a pup when I was younger it was a great engine. I wonder if the Chevy Belhousing would bolt up. Thanks Jay

There are other diesels that are good choices.

Most of the 235s were under a 100 hp. so I figured it was a attempt at affordable power for my 51 gmc 450. thanks Jay

And then everything would fit. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 43 | It had a 270 they pulled it and installed a 292 and converted it o 12 volt. I just love the Detroit sound. I don't think the six will make the same noise in the twin stacks.

To do a nice job on any sort of Diesel conversion it takes time and money, usually lots more than you can imagine from the start. In my experience the cost of the engine is a small part of the whole project/cost because updating an old truck to make good and safe use of that better engine takes so much more.
Not to say you can't plop any sort of diesel engine that fits in there on the cheap... But if that's the results you are after you'll probably be better off leaving the truck stock, it'll look better, be worth more, and you will have saved time and money.
A 4BT Cummins should be a very straightforward swap but not eat up with HP. It'd be great for going to shows and saving on fuel to get there, probably never save what the conversion cost..

What a total pice of junk IMO. (hwy travel position naturally). So I'd say stay as far away from it as you can get. Your think HP only and it's torque that pushes a truck. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 | That same diesel came in the Chevette, if you had to go up hill into the wind you were in trouble.... | | |
