no you can't adjust it - you only need worry about low oil pressure, 15# is a ballpark minimum, see what happens once the engine is run in

I don't know the history of your 216 but I will mention what I have read over time on oil pressure issues. If the oil distributor valve spring is modified to raise the indicated pressure it will result in insufficient flow to the rods and damage will likely occur.

Maybe the period ("." full-stop) key is broken?

Say speeeeeeeeed!
The oil pressure when a 216 is cold will be about 25-30psi.
The oil pressure when a 216 is warmed up will be about 14-15psi.
The oil pressure when a 216 is idling will be about 6-7psi.

Anything other than that indicates either a problem somewhere
in the system or that someone has modified the system in some way
other than stock, in which case he or they have assumed the title
of "head engineer".

My 216 never sems to get abov 8 PSI, but the upper end is getting oil, so I attribute it to the 1948 oil gauge. No problems in five years.

Not unusual Tom. Probably attributable to the bearings being
worn some. If you ever have a need to pull the pan down it wouldn't
hurt none to reshim them. Might bring up the pressure a bit.
Don't cost that much to pull the cover off the oil pump and see
if the gears are worn or if the bottom of the housing is
showing any wear. Really a simple pump and you can get
rebuiling kits for them. It's also possible that someone put a
homemade gasket under the cover which would lower the output
due to to much clearance (pressure leakage) at the ends of the
gears.

Tigman 1,
Not to be rude but perhaps you should worry about punctuation.

The purpose of this forum is to share information, and even the most laid back (and permissive) of us have difficulty reading your posts and understanding what your questions and problems are with your oil pressure. That is why you got the response from some of the posts earlier in this thread. Even the most finicky of us will sometimes have a typographical error, and are usually forgiven, as long as we can communicate. Here, you have access to some of the best advice possible, with many willing to give you a hand. You just need to help us out a bit.

I am really glad you found the problem and shared the solution with us. That is something for all of us to keep in mind next time we have a similar problem.

Kent
