Just a couple hour delay to work and no power at home...
I was looking forward to a day off if we could, but with no power it's not quite the same.

...best laid plans, and all that...

Little boy's school closed so, had to build a snowman, have a lengthy snowball fight (he's getting too good), fix hot cocoa, set clothes up to dry, and engage in other important 8-year-old activities.

But, will make a valiant effort to do SOMETHING on the truck today!

No delay and no excuse to miss work because of the snow, not when you own and drive the snow plow! I always think how cool it would be to be home watching the snow fall and know I didn't have to leave. The bright side is, I call snowflakes falling, pennies from heaven. Pennies that will go right into the GMC project! So that is my snow to truck progress connection.

Watching it rain, If it switches over to snow, I may get some to do. Plow sitting in garage means, No $now Money.

Watching it rain aint so bad for me either. It means I don't have any shoveling.

I wish it would snow here, too. Rain all day. But I did drive the Army surplus van to work today in the blowing rain I'd like to see Mikey and Billy get their pennies from Heaven so they can get their respective projects done so they can drive them to Homecoming some day before the Sun goes supernova

Boy, what a bust that storm was. Heck, I have been home since 3pm and the "snow" wasn't supposed to over until 3 tomorrow morning. At nine am today they were still calling for 6-8" and we never had a snow balls worth of snow on the pavement! Heck Jim Cantory from the Weather Channel, who normally is sent to the eye of every storm, was in downtown D.C. and never even got snow on his shoes because, guess what, it rained there all day! What a joke. No pennies to plow today. Probably all my fault. I bought into the hype yesterday and got my snow blower off the rack for the first time of the year. Gassed her up and it fired first pull. That's what did it.
An to think, ol heavy D did missed out on the perfect opportunity for a swan
song as that was most likely the last time I will push snow with the old guy.


Oh yea, my sister lives in Linden Va and I heard around 5pm that she had 22" on her deck and it was still coming down. She's about an hour west of Bethesda where I was.

Hey y'all, lost power for 10 hours, 0500 till 1500 so daylight hours, not bad at all. We got 8-10" of heavy white stuff. According to a computer weather model I looked at, George was near the epicenter projecting 12-18" so I hope he checks in soon.

Just now talked with Grigg, same amount of snow as here, his power has been out since midnight last night, he's got plenty of firewood, so they are good to go.

Hope the snow is gone by the weekend.

Still no power this morning..
Mom and Dad are out too and will probably be longer before they get any, we're expecting it today.
Unfortunately they have a nice 4-53 Detroit powered generator all nice and cozy in it's little building... we just haven't had time to finish installing it, fuel, exhaust, and radiator duct work. Dad's heard about that a few times already.

I am getting closer to trading an engine for our own little 2-53 Detroit generator, after this storm I sure hope that works out.

Grigg, I have been looking a Detroit generators on Ebay, more or less just seeing whats out there. How many KW would the one you are looking at put out?
My in laws had a 10kw Generac that shut itself off due to low oil(less than 300hrs). The service company drained the remaining oil, replaced the filter and filled it up with new oil. Went to start it and told them it was making noise so they didn't try to start it again. Their electrician (who knows nothing about engines) and did not speak to the Service guy told them it was blown up, get a new one (which he would be happy to provide a price for).
Long story short, they didn't want to get it fixed and potentially give them more problems so we ordered a new one online. I installed it and they gave me the old one. I hooked it up to a jump box and cranked it. It sounds to me like the starter is bad! I haven't fiddled with it since but need to get it going. Any suggestions?

A 2-53 is supposedly good at 12-15 kw, Timothy at Leids will figure out what I need.
Mom and Dad's 4-53 is 45 KW

If the generator you have stopped for a low oil level alarm then figure out why (if more than just neglect) and it'll be good to go, if it stopped for a low oil pressure you might want to do some more investigating, check bearings, oil pump, relief valve, and that sort of thing. Or take chances and see if it runs and holds oil pressure now.

I am pretty sure I read that these generators have low oil protection on them on them, that is why I have hopes that the engine is ok. My log splitter won't run or start if it is slightly low on oil. There are a few unknowns about what happened and I haven't gotten a real clear story from the in laws. Both the electrician and the service company seemed more interested in selling them a new unit.

I'm dealing with Timothy at Leids right now, Overhaul on a 8V92. $$$$$$$$

I just don't understand the goofballs that run my kids school system. It is 38+ degrees outside, so no chance of ice, the snow has completely melted off the roads and sidewalks EVERYWHERE yet my kids don't have school yet again today, for the THIRD day in a row.

Yep, 8 cylinders are expensive to replace, be thankful it's not a 12V, injectors alone for a 12 cly. run near $1,000 a set for mechanical.
That's why I like the sound of a 2 cly for a generator, just the right size, everything is reasonably cheap and you don't need many.

glad to hear that everyone survived the blizzard of 2013 (insert sarcasm here). I have been very let down this year due to lack of snow. I don't want tons of it, but it is nice to have a little now and then after being used to it growing up in North Dakota.

Sorry I missed all the fun. I was hoping Billy and Mike R hit the mother lode of snow, so they could bank more truck money... Sorry for the result.

We lost power on Wednesday and when it came back on, the monitor for the computer was toast; just hooked up an old one to check into the world.

I never measured our final snowfall total, but I'm guessing about 14". Tons of tree limbs down across my pasture fence, so I'll be on the chainsaw once it clears up.
