Hello S/B community, I have a quick question, will a 53 3100 bench seat fit a 49 3100 seat frame? I tried the search function for this and came up empty handed. I'm sorry if this has been covered before. Thank you guys.

I did this switch to get rid of the cable system that did not work.

You can do it

In 1950 the seat width increased 2-1/2" but I am unsure if the frame mounting changed?

I've asked that question before but no one posted measurements.

I'll post outer side-to-side measurements of the metal base for a 54 if someone posts measurements for pre-50 metal seat base.

In 1950, the seat was also "made more durable by adding turns to the coil springs and by increasing the gauge of the spring wire"(LCVA article).

I put a seat out of a 50 3100 in my 48 3100. It fits fine.

Ok, where did I go off track on this one Dennis, didn't all of the AD's have a cable and pulley seat adjuster???

Seat frame that's welded to the floor board is 56".

I just now looked at a lot of you really old posts, Denny. Many of your old posts are now blank. This problem with the new Stovebolt.com server/software is really a seriously bad problem.

If you width is for a pre-1950, and no one posts a width for a post-50 seat-base, I'll unpack my hibernating 54 and measure the width.

On what part of the base did you span your measuring tape (if that makes a distance). Side-to-side seat base - measured at the rearward side, middle side, forward side.

I do not know if this makes a difference on a regular cab. It makes a difference on my GMC COE seat base, which is different from a Chevrolet standard cab seat base (the COE is the only base I can get to now).

How bout a '51 and '53, got that out of the spec. sheet body
dimemsions. and took a quick look at mine '50 which looked the
same. Since they're only talking an 1 1/4" on each side it well
might have just been in the uppre cushion band that they
widened it. I don't think the earlier cabs are actually
2 1/2" wider.
I'm not in a position to start trearing either on of my truck
apart right now to take measurements so maybe some one that has
their's in process or in a heated garage can follow up.

Thank you guys for the replys, Brad Allen thank you for the link, I did not know they were wider.Mr Graham and tclederman if I get a chance this evening I will measure the inside of the seat frame since it is not in the truck yet (in my storage room) and post the measurements.The reason for this post was that I have an opportunity to buy a used seat and wanted to know for sure.
oldbluetruck, when you did the swap, I take it the seat just dropped in (no mods or alterations) or what else, if anything was done?

My 48 had the old cable system which did not work. This is the adjustment for the front to back for leg room. I bought the entire seat which included the adjusters, seat frame, and cushions from a 50 3100. I had to remove all the cable adjustments, frame and cushions for the replacement.

I do not remember any width difference. It seems to me the frame and cushion widths were the same

Fixing the cable seat adjusters turned out to be a pretty easy job once I figured out how to cross the cables. Works pretty well.

I wish that I could have done that. It would have been nice
