Howdy folks......I'm dealing with a '56 235 in a '47 pickup. I'd like to upgrade from the 50 year old stock carb technology to something more modern / efficient. I think I've narrowed the carb options to:
- Rochester 2GC
- Rochester 1MV
- Weber 32/36 DGV

I'm not looking to hot rod the thing, just something reliable and efficient.
Has anyone had any particular successes ( or failures) with the above carbs ? I'd like to use the stock manifold and an adaptor.

I dont know about the ones you mentioned, but i know carters single barres are known to be good. the rochester that came with the 235 is super easy to tear down.zeniths for a gmc? i think carter are thought to be the best.

I do not think i will be much help but here goes my $.02. I have heard of the ABC's alway buy carter but i have no experience there. I just went with a dual two bbl set up from Tom Langons Stovebolt Engine Company. They are a 2bbl progressive type. He has a small article about them in the tech tip section. When i talked to particks about them he suggested dual single bbl. And again i realize you are doing a single bbl set up. The only thing i know about them is they are very simple to rebuild which i have rebuilt one and i own 2thing of them and the non rebuilt one has a leak. Someone i read referred to them as leakchesters.

The carb king has an article also and maybe you might want to call him and see what they recommend. Just my two cents. Good luck

Ive never run a mono jet (1mv) on the older engines but I think it would make a very good swap. When they are right they are very efficiant. I believe the mounting is the same & the throttle should work.
What is wrong with the Model B that is on it. To me they are not as bad as a lot of people carry on about.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I was thinking of going with the Weber you mentioned but may end up with the dual holly/weber set up that Langdon has available. Like to hear, though, how that single two bbl 32/36 DGEV works out from those who use it. I seem to recall some guys liking it.

Dogface,

Is Landon selling a dual Holley-Weber and/or a dual Carter-Weber?

235 engine?

I doubt you find much difference in any of them if they all were in good working order. GM could not of sold this many trucks with bad carburetors. Rebuild what you have. If you really want to up date, in stall EFI.

By the way, the newest Mono-jet out there is still close to 40 years old !

Heard Tom L. is selling the Carter/Weber because he cannot find the H/W's any longer. The H/W's can be found on ebay etc love the pair I have on the 46.

What model H-Ws are you using?

I see (the 1953 in the Gallery) you have them on a 261. That setup looks real nice.

How well do they respond at low RPM when you hit the gas?

Your 1947 coupe is beautiful, too.

I believe so...I think I saw them on his web page yesterday. He's been away from the shop for a while and due to return soon....3/6 I think he said. He has since introduced the Weber 32/36 DGV progressive two bbl which will work on the stock intake with an adapter so that may be more popular now. (Yes, I'm still planning on yours whenever) wink
