Time to start planning the big Spring event at HQ. In past years, we done it the same weekend as the Leonardtown car show (Sunday). That is 28 April this year.

Do we want to make Homecoming 26-28 April?

Comments? Suggestions? Candidate projects?

My candidate project is to remove the sleeper cab from the '53 470 and move the chassis to Mike B's.

My other candidate project is to hand every one a paint roller and we paint Hambone's truck! Bring your own color!

Dates sound good to me and I have already marked out on the calendar, just in case).

Candidate project: Cosmo and I talked about him helping me go through my 3-speed and attached OD unit, assuming I can find the parts in time. Maybe not as a feature, but a little side project? I guess he's had a few questions about working on these units in the past.

These dates will work for me also. Book club states that this weekend in April for member preferred reading. So I will choose to read the side of whichever beer can Marlow puts in my hand to drink. Remember Marlow, no cheap beer please.

Mr. Sergeant At Arms ... Can we get a read on the bylaws, please? Am I correct in remembering that the By Laws of the ODSS clearly state that "Any member having missed three consecutive Major Meetings of the group (as specified, retroactively if necessary, by the executive committee in ad hoc quorum session) shall be reduced in rank to "Probationary Applicant, 3rd Class?"

Thus, do I detect a Probie making a beer demand of an Executive Committee Member???

Kudos to brother John! As luck or fate or dumb chance would have it I have the Official ODSS Book of Bylaws cracked open (we are talking about beer procedure here) to the exact bylaw that Brother John is referring to and wait, a pause for dramatic effect..., Brother John has stated the law verbatim!!! Therefore, the bylaws further state: By the mearest whim of dues paying members to obtain a beverage of choice the Probationary Applicant, 3rd class shall jump to action to satisfy such need. Applicant can gain stature amoung the regular rank and file members by anticipating such need. Fellow Brothers, please don't shoot the messenger, just reading the bylaw as stated.

Since i am still learning (and laughing at the banter in the posts), i have a dumb question.

Question, does that mean that "homecoming" will be IN Leonardtown, or just the same weekend but held someplace else?
In any case, i have it on my calendar, and will look forward to ANY project. Just trying to get smarter.

Alec,the Homecoming is at Stovebolt HQ in beautiful Oakville Md. It just a short 15 minute cruise to Leonardtown. Not everyone attends the car show on Sunday that goes to the HC.
Its a nice show though in the town square.

As a newbie, I will bring beer to the next one since i can't make this homecoming. Can i propose that if you miss 3 meetings that you must bring some beer to the next meeting you attend?

NDKid ... ahem... IF you had downloaded the By Laws, you would know the answer already ... Okay, as a "Probationary Applicant 1st Class" attending your first meeting, you are exempt from bring beer for anyone other than yourself and the ODSS Rush Chair.

And as a Probationary Applicant, 1st Class you are not eligible to propose by laws amendments (nice try to deflect attention away from yourself or having to get out ofbringing beer -- keep reading). The penalty for violating that by law is, if the SAA and/or Camp Commandant will correct me if I'm wrong (which has never happened by the way. I thought I was wrong once, but luckly it turned out that I was mistaken ), having to bring beer to the next meeting.

So yes, bring beer.

And we will no doubt vote you into some horrid and degrading position in absentia.

Should you desire to appeal, Mike Roache is the official ODSS Defense Counsel for legal proceedings.

What is this exempt from bringing beer to a get together thingy? Momma always told me that when you go to someone's house (HQ) that you bring something with you. (ie food, drinks or manual labor)

I like Brother Millimans strategic earmark in the above post. Given the Rush Chair and event host are the same brother, we will let it slide.

I am in outline form on establishing the agenda and welcoming words. Do we have any item to address before the group?

As Camp Commandant I can only add three things to this ever so important online ODSS proceeding.
First off, don't take Defense Counsel Roach lightly. After all, we don't call him Mike "Maddog Roach" for nothing. He will drop the hammer on ya.
Second, I feel, with the utmost respect that the SAA and the Rush Chair have overlooked a serious possible violation in the ODSS bylaws. If an ODSS member misses 3 (THREE) major meetings (shame, shame, shame), said member is automatically placed in the ODSS Book Club until the executive committee decides, no matter how many meeting he attends after said rank reduction, he can be promoted.
Third. Cold Beer is good. Nothing wrong with an Adolphus Busch product, no hatin on a good cold Bud. Now if you want to schmooze the pres., I think he kind of likes the craft brews, no light beer, an import perhaps or something in a dark?? I know for a fact that the Pooh Bah likes a nearly frozen Becks or even a Hinekin. Funny, the camp Commandant has a the same palate.

I propose that some dues monies go to El Presidenti for his discretionary spending account as per the bylaws, so that the ODSS first Lady will have her meal expenses covered, I differ to last year when the Rush Chair wanted to know if someonre else was going to cover her meal.

Brother Milliman, the Gott Boys are planning on attending, the younger one of the group is a great manual laborer, I ask that that an exemption be granted to child labor law regulations.

And it's a farm -- Child Labor Laws don't apply I'll have something suitable for you all to do

I Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident:


The Grand Pooh Bah, Holder of The ODSS Scrolls and Master Interpreter of the ODSS Bylaws, John Milliman, is lord over all he surveys and we are his guests. If you need guidance on the term 'guest' google Emily Post or Ms Manners.

The Camp Commandant, Exotic Animal Division, Executive Committee, Billy Marlow, will inspect all coolers, sample all alcoholic beverages for purity. All those having coolers will stand at attention as he approaches and then hand salute before you open the cooler for his inspection, then assume the parade rest posture during inspection. If the CC finds your cooler, in his terms 'Wanting' of quality or quantity, as Mr.T would say, "I pity the fool."

The Sergeant At Arms, Chris Sweet, will maintain order at his discretion, no voice on the Homecoming Compound will be louder than his, no running unless you seek his permission to run for a beer. Look to him as a model of order and sensibility, google 'beer etiquette' for guidance or draw near and ask his opinion directly.

Johnny G -- Um, a quick glance at the World Dictionary reveals this: "First Lady (N): The wife or official hostess of a chief executive" When one refers to the ODSS (which I may casually assume we all are here), the Chief Executive is President Cosmo. Thus, in this conversation, "First Lady" would refer to Mrs. Cosmo. Hence my earlier confusion above.

And for the record, I would hardly call Peggy "First Lady" of anything -- she's pretty much the chief executive of most activity around HQ ... (Except beer drinkin ' -- *I'M* still in charge of THAT, by golly!

As for receiving any apologies from your brethren ... please enjoy the sweet, comforting strains of the cricket chorus whilst you await the next available agent ...

Oh and come on, guys like me and Cosmo, who have few years on young Mr. Milliman, feel a little tinge when you mention senior moment. As you can tell, I still struggle having turned the big Five O, three years ago!

By the way - tent site ONE is reserved for homecoming. Bonfire committee settled on location of fire. Sponsored again by 60-66, the finest in truck styling. We just need Phil Jr. to pick the reading and the music and we will be set for the big burn.
And don't forget your gas cans. I will be happy to fill them with diesel.
