Hey all. Getting ready to start putting the front end back together on the 54 3100. I've searched the forum and looked through the tech tips hoping to find part numbers for the "modern" style tie rod ends. Found part #'s for the drag link (thanks to Jim Wilson for the tech tip) but couldn't find anything for the tie rods. Would anyone have part #'s?. Thanks.

It seems like the parts stores don't list them anymore. You can get them from the specialty stores.

54hydramaticFL, If, and I say IF yours would be the same as the ones on my 52 here is the number for Classic Parts #76-005 and they came as a pair. If I remember one is left handed and one if right handed.
They are actually CCP part #TRE-47-59. I put them on my 52panel and they are nice. I'm running 235 tires and no rub.

IF your GMC are the same these would work. Good Luck.

EDIT: the price was $54.70 including shipping August 2011. I shopped around because a couple vendors were quite high/expensive!

I've looked at some of the suppliers online. I get a pretty good discount at NAPA so was hoping to get some part #'s I could take to them. Does anyone know what the original application would have been for the "modern" ends? Perhaps a later model Chevy 1/2 ton?

Mmmm, perhaps a search would turn up some info. Back when I was doing mine it seems there were some guys that had part numbers and were Moog..... I think but not sure.
I tried to get them at the local parts store and it seems the price was was outrageous....like 80 bucks a piece.

Edit: I believe there is a tech tip on doing this. Again, I might add that when I was looking for them the ones I got from Classic Parts worked right out of the box for my 52. No reaming/tapering or anything....and the best part was the price was the best around from all the places I checked. If you do a search for "modern ball joints" you'll get quite a bit to read....

As you probably know, NAPA only lists the original style tie-rod ends made by Rare Parts (over $100 each).

I doubt if even a good discount would get you both for $50 - Classic Parts (posted by Alvin) #76-005 1934-59

Hmmm, I need to check my receipts Tim. I got the info off my parts sheet I'm keeping....I'll check but I do remember being surprised at the cost. I'm gonna look at my receipts and get back to you. Also, I didn't have to do anything but bolt mine in. I'll be back later and correct any mistake I may have made.
(you are correct on Rare Parts) Even thru Advance Auto and with my discount they were going to be $120 for the pair but can't remember where from.

Edit: I just pulled my receipts and yes, I got my modern tie rod ends from Classic Parts of America.(and a 1.70 set of vent pivots) Ticket is dated Aug. 26th 20ll for part # 76-005 and the price was $49.95 and with our discount they were $44.96 for the PAIR.
I remember opening the box and seeing where they were made as mentioned above.

Whew, I couldn't afford to build the panel at todays prices in general!!!

I used the components listed in the tech tip for the drag link upgrade and added the information regarding the tapers here.
