I've searched the forums and don't see an answer to my question, so here goes...

I have a '66 C10 with a 250cid/MT and a 1BBL Rochester B. The throat of the carb is 2-1/8" and the bottom opening on my stock air cleaner is 2-5/8". There was a plastic adapter that sat on top of the carb, but I dropped it and it's bounced somewhere into another dimension. (Gotta be in the garage somewhere, but no luck after 3 days.)
I've been searching every vendor I can find on the 'net, Googled and checked out the swap meet in Sacramento this morning, but cannot find a source for that adapter.
I'm kind of a "keep 'er stock" Nazi.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I would bet the air cleaner is from a 2 barrel since the opening is bigger then the carb. Original 1 barrel air cleaners fit he carb with out a adapter. It might have been a old aftermarket piece.

Have you checked the frame rails, I loose a lot stuff in plan site!

Joe,

Yeah, I checked the rails (they seem to catch everything, don't they?).

I agree, the cleaner is for at least a 2bbl, and it doesn't look like the adapter was a GM product.

I cannot find a stock cleaner for the 1bbl (other than oil filled).

What was stock on the '66 250? I'm stumped.

I have a spacer at the shop that may be what you need. I wont be there till tomorow. I will look at it. I also have an air cleaner from a van that fits that. It is a dry cartridge type & has the bracket with it. I can send photos of it by E-mail.

Wrenchbender-
I'd appreciate any help. If you could send pics, I'll see if it will work.

George,
Pic in the lower left-hand corner of my album (white plastic piece) is what I'm looking for.
Thanks,
Rick

The one I have is pot metal but i'm pretty sure it is what you need. If you send me an e-mail address I will send photo's of the air cleaner I have. There was an ad on it in the parts for sale but it is way back in there now.

George - Thanks again.

[email protected]

Let me know what a fair price would be.

Slow down guys. 2 5/8" is the stock OD for a monojet, which may have been the original carb on your truck. Somebody like George or Bill can tell you when the "B" ended and the Monojet began, but they both bolt to the same manifold opening. Why would the factory have to "adapt" an air cleaner, anyway. My guess would be that you have a combination of parts that don't all match. I could be wrong though, just ask anybody!

Best wishes,

Les

Les-Thanks for jumping in. I'm not sure whether the carb or cleaner is original to the truck (if either).

Information that George didn't have:

Looks like the truck originally had the AIR system on it (manifold was tapped and is now plugged).

Checking the forums, it sounds like I'd be better off replacing the carb with a model M. The airhorn on the B apparently warps.

The manual choke and carb linkage look original. Will both work with the M?

Rick,

I have a couple of 235 intakes that have the same plug and BOTH came off of engines from either a car or a 1/2 T truck so that is no indication. Sorry to load ya up with good news!

So...the question remains:

What type of air cleaner was used on a 1966 250cid with a Rochester B (air horn 2-18")?

I can't believe it was an oil-filled, but that's all I see out there for sale that fits.

The 1966 service manual shows a paper element cleaner, but I can't find anything smaller than a 2-5/8" opening. (Actually, George has an adapter from a van, but even it is 2-5/16")

Nobody seems to have an adapter.

Any info out there?

Thaks

Arfelmcfarfel, From what I can tell, the "B" is a 235 carb and your truck probably came with a monojet either electric or manual choke. Maybe a PO swapped carbs on you. For an air cleaner, start looking at 235s. I'm pretty sure that most if not all were oil bath, but there are plenty of guys here that have converted them to paper element. You can always hit a pal with a lathe or a local job shop machine shop and have an adapter made. I'm looking for a 250 paper element air cleaner to cut up right now. I hope this gives you some ideas and doesn't muddy the waters!

Best wishes,

Les

Les- Thanks again for the help. I stuck a chrome wart on top of the carb until I figure out which way to go.
