Hello, I have a 1953 3600 and I was just wondering would it be fairly easy to replace a column shift 3 speed transmission be replace with a 4 speed stick shift?

Were they fairly interchangeable back then or is it a can of worms?

Thanks,
Dave

No problem switching to an SM420 4-speed with the torque-tube adapter on the back. Same length as the 3-speed. You would need the 4-speed forward u-joint yoke and the 3-speed rear u-joint yoke.

The speedometer drive and driven gears would most likely not give the correct speed. A ratio adapter can be obtained for about $100 or less.

You need to forget that and find an SM420. They are plentiful and cheap and will bolt right up.
