That Filling Station part appears to be for 50-62 5-cylinder engines.

In the old days, I heard of people who had one bad set of rings or one bad rod; and, they supposedly simply removed the rod and maybe the piston. They then ran on five.

Don't see how it would run very long before breaking a
crankshaft unless it was balanced with a bob weight
in place of the rod and piston.

I have no idea how long they would run, Denny, but I would chuckle when I heard the antics/fixes used to keep an old farm truck running.
Another unorthodox "repair" was to file the mating surfaces on rod bearing ends for a tighter fit (they even used plastigauge - this was precision work) - to "fix" rod knocks and/or low oil pressure.

And got a lot of useful miles out of them.
