For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 123 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 123 | I have a 1950 216 engine. For the last two years I have worked on cleaning, painting frame, suspension etc... Now I would like to start the motor to see if it works well or needs a tear down. 1- where do I get a pump to fit in the distributor hole to pump the oil? 2- Everything was 6V. Can I use a 12V to get it started? 3- Anything in particular I need to do before I try starting. Nothing is hooked up to the motor at this time. You can jump start with 12 volts. If you want to change over to 12v. go to this web site, has all info you need for change to 12v http://www.patricksantiquecars.com/If you've not made any alterations to your motor you should be good to go, get some fresh gas! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | All of what Jim said. I would make sure you have clean oil in the crankcase too,ie; no water from sitting so long.

Hot wire the coil right off the battery ( 12 volt coil with 12 v batt.)
12 volts to starter will not hurt a 6 volt starter for limited use.
fresh gas from separate container in case fuel system is in question,
fresh oil and prime oil pump. ( any old distributor shaft cut off in 1/2" drill will work for primer )
Pull rocker cover to check for said oil while priming,
Fire extinguisher standing by!
