| | | | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 133 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 133 | I installed my 4 speed transmission, new u-joint and the rebuilt torque tube in my "52" 1/2 ton. I filled the u-joint housing with gear oil but it never reached the fill port. I put in two 32oz bottles and quit. When I went to fill the transmission it did not take much more. Can I assume the gear oil flows into both the u-joint housing and the tranny. I could not find this answer anywhere in the shop manual. I did install a new okie bushing in the torque tube so fluid should not have leaked into the tube.

Bart. So the two spaces are common to each other. Just make
sure to check the trans fluid level a few times after driving
it a bit. As Tim points out, they will level out eventualy.

Whoever had the truck before me did not which is more then likely why my yoke was in the shape it was in. I had to purchase a new yoke. Actually a pair of clips came with the rebuild kit I purchased from Patricks even though a new u-joint did not so I figured it must be pretty important.
