Don't know how similar your e -
brake is to my 56, but I had to replace both e-brake cables from the drum to the connecting lever. Mine were sheathed cables, not sure yours are sheathed or open cable. That fixed my problem. I was systematically able to clean and free all other cables and connections all the way back to the cab so that stuff is still original. Probably not much help, but you will need to find out where the action stops after you engage the brake pedal or handle, whichever it is.
