Gentle readers from the south...

I have misplaced my favorite recipe for Hoppin' John so I said to myself..."Why not go and ask the brothers of the region where it was first made?" As you may or may not know it is a traditional 'lucky' meal to ring in the new year.

I of course searched the internet but would really enjoy a true southern recipe handed down through the years.

Regards for a Happy New Year to y'all,

Cosmo

(just down the road in Virginia)

Presently, we are down the road in NC, but this version is made like my VA mother-in-law used to make it.

Black Eyed Peas on New Year's Day for good luck, of course (and, field peas are more flavorful, and most likely more traditional).

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

You know I was just kidding Alvin! Next time you are this way we'll have a feed! I'm going to the American Legion. My post has Hog Jowl, Black Eyes, Collards and Cornbread every New Years Day. Mmmmmm!
