The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline Shifter hole location

I read the tech pages about the install of a T5 tranny in a AD truck. But as far as I can tell (read) it doesn't splain if the shifter floor hole is the same or if I'll need a flat floor panel for a new hole ? Does that make sense?. This is going in a 1950 1/2 ton w/a 216 and open drive line I'm running a 12 bolt rearend out of a 67 1/2 ton.

Yes,you will need the flat floor pan for a three speed on column truck. floor pan you will then need to cut the hole for the t-5 shifter.I installed my t5 without the shifter attached and marked where to cut from underneath the truck with a sharpie marker.

I think freak means he had a 4 speed with the torque tube before and now has a t5 correct? I think if you used a sm420 it the same but any other four speed (or the t5) might be diffrent.

Id use card board to mock where i was gonna cut, then cut a trans pan from a column shift car if it dosent fit the one you have now

As of now I'm run a sm420 with a open drive line and I plan on installing the t5. I have a plain cover for a column shift truck. I was hoping I wouldn't have to cut into the floor, just the cover plate. It sound like it won't be to hard to mark and cut.

All you have to do is cut a hole in the 3speed transmission floor pan cover.

I wouldn't cut the 4 speed transmission floor cover,they are heavily sought after.
