Glad people find them useful and interesting. Still working with the site and Tim to post them all permanently somewhere for everyone to enjoy and so they don't get lost if there is another Webshots type meltdown. This last posting took my personal Flikr account over 4000+ pictures. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | Posted a couple of new Chevrolet filmstrips, not truck but still cool. In fact to great, I've spent hours and hours of precious time studying the film strips instead of working on my projects. But really, it's like being back in the classroom again for me. I just looked thru "The most comfortable" and picked up on several details. I think I walk away a little wiser from everyone that I've watched. After supper I went thru "Behind the Finish" and was surprised at how much hand work was still being used even as late as 1949 to finish the bodys.
Hope we've always got those to look at Brad. I asked for years when I was a member of the VCCA for stuff like that but not once did I ever see any thing. I know there are guys there that have documents like that in their private collections but I guess they save them for a special few.
So thanks once again for all your work scanning and posting those films for all of us, I really enjoy them. And thanks also to the staff here at the Stovebolt for providing us with the venue to share them.

Been running thru Brad’s latest gift to us, “The Best Engine” and as usual I was picking up little details that we’ve debated in these forums from time to time. For someone restoring the interior of a ’41 sedan, great views of the upholstery. Type of air cleaner used on the passenger cars and original AC sticker. I’ve seen these air cleaners at swap meets and often wondered just exactly what they were for. The rocker arm shaft connector and it’s clip for the pre-war engines. 1941 vintage gas pumps. Some nice cross sections of the block and head. Clear view of the correct fuel pump, distributor position (grease cup), correct type of breather and oil fill cap for pre-war engines. Clear view of fuel and vacuum line routing and correct plug wires. Correct embossed oil dipstick. Greasing the springs that were wrapped on the cars. A clear schematic for the oil circuit. Interesting point made about the snug fit of a “Cast Iron piston in a Cast Iron cylinder,” and the loose fit using dissimilar metals for pistons based on the expansion coefficients I’m sure. Might make you re-examine that warm up you’ve been ignoring lately if you have aluminum pistons. Just some of the things that I’m noticing in the films Brad, tks. Now, if only you had some color films that showed the correct shade of gray for the engines. But…..they probably wouldn’t be of any use because they would be faded or taken at the wrong factory, right Tim?
Didn’t see that one on ‘radios’ Brad, have to look for that one later since I’ve spent the whole day looking at youtube and film strips.. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

That’s right up my alley since my first love is my ’50, 3604. Hope ya know I’m just pullin’ yer jeber about the engine color. I’m sure you are partly correct in that it did vary over the years. The darker gray just fits my personal taste and I think it looks the best under the hood next to the satin black skirts frame and core support. Well been lookin’ thru that film strip, slow process for me, it takes one to two minutes to open any graphic with this dang DSL internet that I’m cursed with here in the country. So sifting thru any one of these films is a morning or afternoon project.

It is interesting to again see that GM called the low-pressure lubrication system a "full pressure" system (the full pressure for the low-pressure system).
