I was wodering what the last year gm produced the straight 6 cyl and cars they put them in?

They still have a straight six, the Vortec, available in the small pickups. At least I think that is the case.

The Colorado pickups come with a 3.7L inline 5 cylinder engine.

The Colorado pickup and the GMC version have been dropped from the GM line. Ford has dropped their best selling Ranger as well. It appears GM will build a new replacement at the MO assembly plant. Ford is likely to have a new unit also at it's MN facility.

An Indian pickup from the Mahindra tractor company that sells here is likely to be the next smaller truck you see if plans continue to develop.

According to wikipedia the last inline 6's prior to the "Atlas" were made in 1990 (US).

I only learned recently that Dodge/Ram dropped the Dakota in 2011, same year as Ranger. The best truck I ever had is a 2000 Ranger I've owned almost 10 years - longer than I've owned any vehicle...

But small trucks aren't selling now as the were. And as good as fuel mileage is now available in full size...

According to this Mahindra is DOA in the US.

If I replace the inline 6 in my coe, I want to get the most modern version. The inline 5 sounds interesting.
I think the hummer has a 5 cyl.

The 5 cylinder is an electronically injected engine and the crank is not drilled for a pilot bearing. My wife drives a Colorado. She likes it but it is barely enough power for the small pickup. Putting it into a truck would be a big waste of time and money. There are some good 5 cylinder engines out there like a Mercedes Diesel, but they are just not practical to retrofit in an old vehicle.

GM makes a modern 6 cylinder with efi and makes
a lot of horsepower. They should be in the salvage yards if you look.

Yes Frank...NHTSA and EPA again. It begins to look more like our next small pickup or maybe any pickup will be a Tesla or similar electric thing.

lcfman...hope your not referring to the V6 Camaro motor. We're mostly inline guys here and the Atlas engine is now gone but maybe not dead. But the Camaro engine is a really strong unit and would be tons of power in an AD or TF chassis.

The humvee came with 6.2 or 6.5 v8 diesels. The H2s came with your standard gasoline chevy v8 that came in any tahoe or chevy/gmc truck.

Well, the question I have is: Which modern engine would you put in a 51 Chevy COE in the same area as the original engine with the least amount of fabrication?

GM has a fuel injected DOHC inline 6 cyl in the Chevy Trailblazer and GMC Envoy

The last year 6 cyl. that will bolt in is 62, Insert bearings and alot more vacum to run your wipers and 2 speed diff if you have vacum control. That's what I have in mine and I used the original manifolds,flywheel, bell housing and valve cover.
