Are the 39 and 40 chin piece or front splash gaurds the same or is there a difference between the 3/4 and 1/2 ton .

My MPC (Master Parts Catalog) says the part is the same except if you have a heavy duty radiator core you have to cut off the rear flange. Hope this helps.

Would anyone happen to have the lower radiator metal panel off their truck so I could get a few measurements for screw hole placement? I have copied Larry's in 19 gauge steel, it is real close to being done. Thanks! tt

oldgoaly, that is some nice fabrication work! Sorry, no pics, as I have not taken anything apart yet. Somebody around here will help!
Occasionally, on Ebay, some folks in the western states are parting out trucks and I have seen them selling that part... maybe you could search and find a pic you could use as a reference??? just a thought . Good luck!

40Casey, I have seen a nice one on ebay, I'm looking for details like the width of the lower flange, bolt or screw holes sizes and exact location. I guess someone would buy a steel one without holes they do with fiberglass? Pics help but some good measurements would be great!
Achipmuck, I'm thinking 37-8 are the same 39-40 are too, but I'm not a 100% sure Have you had a look at the part I have made so far, I'm very close except for the one flanged edge how does it look compared to yours? Thanks for all the help! I appreciate it!

as for looks it appears pretty darn close. Nice job.
It may be that you will have to "position" it and then drill to match where th bolts screw into.

if I had something to bolt too, my old panel truck was wrecked lower grille is gone, the rest was left to rust away. Larry's is better than mine by far. I'd like to make them correct, I'm so close.......

ok spent a little time in the Chevrolet 29-50 parts book, 39-40 p/n 1.285-3653740 lower radiator shell baffle is the part number we are talking about.

Hey Lar, are you still looking for that lower chin piece or did you get it finished? Mine's off of my truck and I could send it to you to look at and take measurements, etc. if that would help. I do need it back, though.

Lar (Larry) and I are both missing the chin, the valence that goes under the grille, Yes we need help with that part too!
How is the lower baffle between the radiator and the grille, it has a hole in the middle for the hand crank. You help is appreciated! tt

Still looking for help!!!! Really need the info on how wide the flanges are, the angle, and the screw hole location! I think the main part is very close.

If I can get this part finished I have lots of other parts to make for the old panel truck!!!! Yes I've had a tetanus shot! This old truck is rusty but can be saved! with a little help!!!!

Ok, making progress! Are there any Stovebolters interested in a get together to make some parts for our trucks? I'm near St. Louis, Mo. and have a well equipped shop. Looking at the end of February as a date. pm or email me we are going to limit it to 39-40 trucks, mostly grille surround, baffles, valance, fenders doors, sills, floor s/m. that ought to keep us busy a couple of days!
